"I live and work in Boise, ID. Most of photographic work is done in the Boise area, but I do travel further afield when time allows. All prints are created at a professional lab and all pieces are hand-assembled at my studio in Boise.

In my studio I create both portraits as well as art, which adds a little something special to each. The "Art of Being" section is the artistic output of the portraits I shoot.

My photography allows me to spend my days seeing the beauty and good in life, rather than focus on the negative. It’s not always easy but it’s strong medicine to make a conscious choice to turn off the news and look around for something pretty.... and so worth the effort."

Smyth Boone is an eighteenth generation blacksmith, a family legacy that goes back to the time of the Vikings. Smyth combines his inherent blacksmithing skills with the versatile design talents of Robin A. Boone. The unique arrangement of Smyth Boone’s internationally recognized forging skills and Robin’s complex designs combine to form one of the strongest unions in the field of contemporary ironwork.

Unique designs and talented forgings have led to many notable publications of Smyth’s work that can be seen in books, magazines, and on the internet. Smyth’s work has also been featured in international invitational art museum shows that highlight contemporary blacksmithing. Smyth has presented public and trade lectures on the art and craft of contemporary and historical blacksmithing. Smyth and Robin share their skills with the blacksmithing communities throughout the United States and Canada by teaching at blacksmith conferences, art and craft schools, and by publishing many articles on design and technique.

"The artist blacksmith has a unique variety of forging techniques that are specific to the craft of blacksmithing. Forged textures, joinery, forge welding, and the ability to transform metal are some examples. In my work, I highlight these many techniques through composition and execution of a project. Lucia Squillari - she is 21 and does most of the weaving, the sewing, the spinning, modeling and computer work (photo editing, listing writing).

Melissa (mamma) is the big thinker, having many little cubbies to look after. She often comes to Lucia in the morning to tell her all about some great brainwave she's had overnight... Also, she is the photografer , along with Shanty, (8 yrs) Lucia's little sister. They take great shots!! :)

All larimeloom items are 100% handmade, starting from the designs, all of which are created without patterns. Lucia often doesn't even draw the idea down, she just lays the cloth out and grabs her scissors and cut, fingers crossed for decent results :)
She is terribly impatient and what she loves about Etsy is that she has total freedom of doing what she wants. Lucia usually makes only one of each item because she gets bored making others exactly the same.

Each idea brings on several new ideas, both from Lucia and her mom.

Outi Harma is originally from Lapland, Finland. About twenty years ago her move to the warm, multicultural city of Los Angeles became the catalyst that opened her creative expressions.

She started her creative journey by painting on fabric, making wall hangings and hand painted wearable art. This lead her to also selling designs to t-shirt manufactures.

Her next artistic exploration came in a form of ceramics. She fell in love with this functional medium that could bring her art and design to house wares and home décor. For years she has sold her hand painted ceramics in a Los Angeles based artist co-op store called Ten Women. She also has designed many lines of ceramics that have been manufactured and sold all over the world.
All the while she has never stopped hand painting her unique ceramic pieces. Now you can find them on line through her etsy shop right besides prints of her artwork.

“ I am continuously painting on different mediums and exploring new possibilities. One day it is the canvas (or should I say wood, since I prefer that over canvas these days) and the next day it’s ceramics... after that “who knows”. Last week is a good example of this: I painted a few pieces of furniture, a painting on wood, ceramic mugs and I am currently in the middle of painting original artwork on a surf board. Today's Home Decor issue brings you a husband and wife team with the goal to "Live their art".

Michael has always found an amazing beauty in nature, especially right here in the heart of the Blue Ridge. This is where most of his inspiration comes from. With his cutting boards, in particular, Michael designs and arranges the grain of every species of wood so the viewer can see the real beauty and uniqueness of each piece. The amazing colors and patterns of the grain combined with a contrasting color of another species of wood reminds him of the contrasting colors that he sees in nature, as he and his wife Talina and with their son, Quinn, and Michael’s three “adventuresome” stepsons, Seth, Aaron, and Jacob explore these incredible mountains! Each piece of wood that Michael uses is unique and different….Amazingly different. Through his cutting boards, Michael wants to share with other people the beauty that he sees, in just one very small piece of these glorious Appalachian Mountains. Michael has formal education in the arts with a BFA in Ceramics and a BFA in Wood Design both from East Carolina University. He has recently took a leap of faith, resigning from his job making custom furniture for someone else, and opening his own studio where he plans to do woodwork and pottery. I just made another necklace and I love how it turned out. It's all inspired by autumn and its rich colors so I named it Autumn Expressions.

This necklaces expresses my love of autumn and the rich colors it brings to nature. When you first look at this piece your eyes fall on the large antique bronze filigree leaf of great detail that is accented by burgundy lilly flowers and cognac crystal pearls. As an active jewelry designer who attends meetings and workshops all the time, I hear a lot of jewelry business owners complaining that their online stores are not a success at all. I used my web design experience and a lot of research in the domain to gather a few hands-on tips for you to use and turn your online jewelry store into a business success.

Photos that sell the product – The most important thing you have to remember when you have an online jewelry store is that your customer will not be able to feel your jewelry or try it on to see what it looks like. Therefore, clear photos that show as much detail as possible are very important because, afterall, the photo sells the product. Multiple photos for each item are very helpful to show your potential customer all the details. If you have a necklace, try to have at least one photo on a stand, so they can see what it will look like around their neck. If your necklace has a pendant, take an up-close photo of that alone, so you can show all the details of the stones used. When taking photos of jewelry it is crucial that you do that in daytime, without flash. This approach will show the true colors of the stones used without unnecessary reflections.
Search-friendly sites – If you have the possibility to add a search function on your site, please do so. People don’t always know the names of the stones they are looking for and a search functionality will give them the possibility to look for pieces that have a certain color for instance. The idea here is to create the easiest way for your clients to find what they want. When somebody looks for a pearl bracelet, it will be much easier to type that in the search box and hit “Go”, than look through your entire bracelets category to find what they want. Having a search function on your website will be very helpful to your customers but it will certainly add a little more work for you. When you add a product to your store you will have to always remember to tag it with terms that other people might be searching for.
Detailed information – Product descriptions are very important as well when it comes to online jewelry stores. After your client sees the photos, they will want to know what was used to make that piece of jewelry. Try to give as many details as possible about the materials and techniques used as well as sizes. The overall size of the necklace is important, but also include the size of the pendant if you have one, as photos don’t always show the true ratio of the pendant. If you are a custom jewelry designer, I found that people are always interested to find out what your inspiration was. Share that with your visitors and raise their interest in your products.
One size doesn’t always fit all – Since you are selling items that people wear, remember that “One size fits all” doesn’t always apply. Create your jewelry at standard sizes, but always offer people the opportunity to order a smaller or larger item. This way you will increase your clientele.
The price is right – Last but not least, price your jewelry pieces right. As there is a significantly large number of online jewelry stores, you have to be competitive, but at the same time respectful of your work and the materials you use. The art of pricing is probably one of the most difficult, and there is no exact formula or how-to. Using your best judgement and a lot of research in the market area that you are trying to reach, you can find the formula for your prices.
